On your guided tour your driver can bring you to The Rock of Cashel which is also known as Saint Patrick’s Rock and it is reputed that Saint Patrick converted King Aenghus to Christianity here in the 5th Century.

The Rock of Cashel is a spectacular group of Medieval buildings that are set on an outcrop of limestone in Tipperary’s Golden Vale. The buildings include a 12th century Round Tower, High Cross and Romanesque Chapel, 13th century Gothic Cathedral, 15th century Castle and the restored Hall of the Vicars Choral.  Attractions include an audio-visual show and exhibitions. It’s a site that is steeped in history and well worth a visit.

For more than 1,000 years the Rock was a symbol of Royal and Religious power it was the seat of Eóganacht Kings of Munster until rivalries saw Brian Boru, future High King of Ireland, take over in the 10th century. It was later granted to the Church and used even after 17th-century sacking by Cromwellian troops.

Guided Tours which last about 45 minutes are available but do check with site before visit as times may vary. The venue does have access for visitors with disabilities but it is by prior arrangement.

" We had a wonderful experience trying to find relatives. We had a private tour guide, Patrick, who took us to the end of the farthest peninsula. found distant cousins and in the end found dad's second cousin. He was professional and courteous."
